constanza alvarez doesn't remember her parents. which is a sad way to live but she was only five years old when they died. there was a fire at their house and the only person to escape was constanza... because her class at school had done a fire drill only a few days before. and just like that, she was an orphan. the only daughter of two very loving parents who had everything to give their daughter. she doesn't remember any of it, though, and only knew them through the memory of pictures and the things that her maternal grandmother who took her in told her. her grandmother had moved to san francisco when before constanza was born but she would visit every single christmas. constanza was hardly old enough to realize that something had happened to her parents. all she knew was that she was with her grandmother who loved her very much and always wanted her to succeed. she enrolled her granddaughter in gymnastics and other dance classes and she took to gymnastics like a fish to water. she would watch girls compete in competitions and desperately wanted to be as good as all of them one day. that was the goal, at least. but connie's world would change again when her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. then ten year old connie didn't comprehend everything that was going on with her grandmother but when she passed in 2005, she knew she was alone. when her grandmother couldn't care for her any longer, and none of her remaining family would take her in, connie was bounced around in foster care. this made connie grow up pretty quickly and she learned that she was her own best friend and she needed to take care of herself first. she stopped doing gymnastics, even though she loved it, it reminded her too much of her grandmother. in one of the very first homes connie was put in she was harrassed and abused by her seventeen year old foster brother, the scars from that experience still hurt connie to this day. this boy loved to torture her, call her names, spit on her and would give her black eyes because he didn't want her around. she left there when she was 13 and vowed that she would stand up for herself from that moment on. in high school she realized she was really good with the computer and she would spend hours teaching herself coding, which was something that clicked with her. she also learned how to play the bass guitar because she thought that it would be a 'cool' instrument to learn and something that was different. some kids made fun of her for it because they didn't see why a girl would need to play bass guitar but connie wasn't going to let them ruin her fun. she never cared what people thought and that's why she came out in high school as bisexual and never felt a need to explain herself. she liked who she liked full stop and no one could tell her otherwise. some kids gave her a hard time but she turned the other cheek and didn't give them the satisfaction of hurting her. sometimes she would give them a sassy remark or say something about them that was true and sort of hurtful but she never meant it that way. it got her in trouble on more than one occasion, though. she ended up attending mit which was really prestigious for her. her hard work in school paid off and she was off to the east coast which she had never been to in her life. it was a change for her but she took it in stride and her spunky personality made sure that she made friends fairly quickly with people she went to school with. the harsh winters were not her thing, though, and she knew that after she graduated she was going to go back to the west coast where she felt most at home. that was why she decided to apply for stanford and grad school so she could fufill her dreams of working in cyber security. recently she landed an internship at sony and she couldn't be more proud of herself. the world is looking up for connie and she's going to make sure everyone knows it. | ||||
